How to update a Minecraft server

For servers without Bukkit

  1. Stop your Minecraft server.
  2. Download the updated .jar file from: http://www.minecraft.net/download
  3. Rename the updated .jar file to minecraft_server.jar
  4. Upload the new .jar file to the server using the file manager or FTP.
  5. Start your Minecraft server.

For servers with Bukkit installed

  1. Stop your Minecraft server.
  2. Download the updated .jar file from: http://dl.bukkit.org/downloads/craftbukkit
  3. In the file name replace "-" with "_" so that it will work with our command line builder.
  4. Upload the new .jar file to the server using the file manager or FTP.
  5. Login to the control panel > click on game servers > click on your game server ip > click on "Command Line Changer" > edit the bukkit command line and replace the old .jar filename with the new .jar filename > save the command line.
  6. Start your Minecraft server.
